The 5 secret beaches of northern Gallura’s coastline

Looking for little-known and less crowded beaches where you can enjoy the sea in total relaxation? Here are five hidden coves with a wild, untamed charm – the perfect hideaway to immerse yourself in nature and discover a lesser-known side of Gallura.

When it comes to switching off with sunbathing and a carefree swim, your first thought is probably finding a quiet, uncrowded beach. If you’re in search of unspoilt shores for days filled with peace and leisure, here are five wild beaches in northern Sardinia that are just right for you – all within easy reach of Hotel Relax Torreruja:

Li Cossi Beach – naturally captivating

A scenic footpath of around 500 metres leads to this gem of Costa Paradiso, a small seaside village just a few kilometres from Isola Rossa. Marked by wooden railings and winding through the fragrant Mediterranean scrub, the path opens up onto a sort of canyon carved by a small stream, and then to a beach of white sand tinged with pink and emerald waters. Sheltered by dramatic cliffs, it’s a stunningly atmospheric spot. The shallow waters make it ideal for children’s games, while those who love snorkelling will be amazed by the variety of marine flora and fauna that inhabit these waters.

Li Feruli – untamed

A different kind of landscape awaits at the start of the path to Li Feruli beach. As the final stretch of the Badesi coastline heading towards Isola Rossa, this long, wide expanse of pale, fine sand is bordered by dense Mediterranean vegetation with junipers and native plants. Sand dunes and vast open spaces define this wild haven, which remains quiet even in July and August – ideal for an afternoon of silence and rest.

Cala Sarraina – romantic

You'll find this small cove just beyond Costa Paradiso, along the coastal road towards Santa Teresa Gallura. Cala Sarraina is a strip of sand framed by red rocks and aromatic Mediterranean plants, offering fiery, enchanting sunsets in the evening. Small paths meander along the cliffs leading to hidden corners and tiny coves where you can enjoy the sea in complete seclusion.

Lu Litarroni – idyllic

The beauty of this beach, found after the Vignola Mare shoreline (heading from Isola Rossa towards Palau), begins in the thick pine forest. A shady walk among the trees, accompanied by the constant chirping of cicadas, takes you to a stretch of fine sand and crystal-clear sea. With beach bars and sunbed rental available, it’s a favourite among locals for its striking view of Monti Russu, pristine waters, and shallow seabed that’s perfect for children.

Monti Russu – scenic

Also located along the northern coastal road from Isola Rossa to Santa Teresa Gallura, Monti Russu is one of the most scenic beaches in northern Sardinia and was named by Legambiente as one of the ten most beautiful in Italy. The turquoise crescent of sea backed by Monti Russu’s reddish rocks offers one of the area’s most iconic views. Countless trails weave through granite rocks and sparse vegetation, and on clear days you can even spot nearby Corsica.
